FAQ

Where are Gille’s cookies baked?
Almost all Gille’s cookies are baked in our two bakeries in Åsljunga and Örkelljunga in southern Sweden.

How many cookies does Gille bake every day?
During peak season we bake about five million cookies every day, which is 100 tons of cookies.

Which are Gille’s best-selling cookies?
Double Chocolate Crisps is the cookie that sells best out of the entire Gille product range.

In what packaging weights are the Gille cookies sold??
We use different packaging sizes, from 150 grams up to almost 1 kilogram.

What is the shelf life of Gille cookies?
In general, nine months for ordinary cookies and four and a half months for our pastries (such as Gille Pastry, Punsh Rolls and Caramel PastryGille’s Ginger Snaps will stay fresh for 12 months

Do Gille cookies contain preservatives?
There are no preservatives in our ready-to-eat cookies sold directly to consumers. Only our range of pastries and gingerbread dough – products that are not baked – contain preservatives.

Do Gille cookies contain food colourants?
As far as possible, we don’t use food colourants. But when necessary we use approved, well-known colourants, preferably taken directly from natural products such as carrots.

Do Gille cookies contain trans fats?
No. We don’t use any hydrogenated (hardened) or animal fats

Do you use palm oil in Gille cookies?
Yes and no. Some of our gingersnaps and cookies can be baked without palm oil, and instead with alternatives such as rapeseed and shea oil. We bake our other cookies using margarine that includes palm oil, since this is necessary to create the right consistency in the dough and to allow us to avoid using trans fats.

Since 2012, we’ve bought Green Palm Certificates for our palm oil. This means that we support the development of sustainably-produced palm oil. We also made further progress in August 2013, when we switched to using only mass balance-certified palm oil. This means that certified palm oil is delivered to our suppliers in Sweden, where it’s mixed directly into our margarine.

We took yet another step forward in 2016 by switching to segregated sustainable palm oil.

Our supplier, who is a co-founder and member of the organisation Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), is working hard to create palm-oil production that is environmentally sustainable. RSPO is a non-profit organisation that develops and promotes the introduction of standards for sustainably-produced palm oil. Gille is also a member of RSPO through our Dutch parent company.
The palm oil we buy comes from Malaysia and Indonesia.

Do Gille cookies contain milk, butter, or other dairy products?
No. Our cookies are baked without milk, although some of our chocolate products may contain traces of milk.

If you have allergies, we recommend you to always read the list of ingredients printed on the package. You can also check this website assortment, where we provide detailed information about all our different cookies and their ingredients.

What is natural butter flavour?
Natural flavourings are substances that occur naturally and are found in nature. By definition, they must also be produced from natural products, such as fruit and vegetables.

In other words, natural flavourings come from natural plant or meat products. Under a current law introduced on 20 January 2011, food flavourings must be divided into two categories – “natural” and “other” flavourings.

We’ve chosen to use a natural butter flavour in our products that do not contain any substances taken from animals. The flavouring tastes like butter, but has no connection with milk.

Are there any sugar free products in Gille´s assortment?
Yes! We bake sugar-free Oat Cookies, Orange biscuits and Ginger Snaps, as well as Biscuits with raspberry with no added sugar.

Are there any vegan cookies in Gille’s assortment?

We have several varieties of vegan cookies. Read more about them here
