Fika-fest all year!
There is always something to celebrate with a Swedish Fika. GILLE cookies make your moment so much tastier, a little easier – and so much more memorable. GILLE cookies are baked in Sweden, with roots in Swedish fika tradition from a small café in Åsljunga in northern Scania since 1960.
Swedish Fika
”Fika” is one of Sweden’s most cherished traditions – today known the world over as Swedish Fika. As early as the 19th century, fika has been a traditional feature of everyday life. Mostly women gathered around coffee and cakes – to keep company, share thoughts and have a break together. It was never so much about what was served on the table, but about a new lifestyle and about being together.
Swedish Fika
The word ”fika” was born in the 1800s as a play on the word ”kaffi”. Since then it has become a natural part of the language – and of life. Shall we have a fika? A simple suggestion, that means so much more than having coffee and cakes.
Seven Different Cookies
In the 1800s, seven types of cookies and cakes was a social rule. No fewer – or you would seem ungenerous. No more than seven – that would be boastful! But it was not really about the number of varieties. It was about caring, and hospitality. About doing that little bit extra!
GILLE – a Swedish fika tradition
The tradition is alive today – as variety, as everyday pleasure, and about something for everyone to celebrate! A fika-fest is not only for fancy days. It is for life as it is – big moments, small moments, and everything in-between. Just being together is easy with GILLE goodies on the table. Sharing something tasty, or maybe staying up a little later. And for celebrating, exactly whenever you need to!
